Cellcentric eröffnet Pilotfertigung für Brennstoffzellensysteme in Esslingen

Cellcentric, ein Joint Venture der Daimler Truck AG und der Volvo Group, hat die Pilotfertigung für Brennstoffzellensysteme am Standort Esslingen-Pliensauvorstadt eröffnet. Das Unternehmen, das seit 2021 besteht, entwickelt, produziert und vermarktet Brennstoffzellensysteme für den Schwerlastverkehr und strebt an, bis 2050 zu einem weltweit führenden Hersteller von Brennstoffzellen zu werden.

Ein bedeutender Schritt zur CO2-neutralen Mobilität im Schwerlastverkehr

Mit der Eröffnung der Pilotfertigung setzt Cellcentric einen weiteren wichtigen Schritt in Richtung Großserienfertigung. Ziel ist es, bis Ende des Jahrzehnts Lösungen für Langstrecken-Trucks zu entwickeln, die mit Brennstoffzellensystemen betrieben werden. Diese Technologie soll die nachhaltige Mobilitätswende im Schwerlast- und Speditionsverkehr voranbringen. In der modernen Fertigungsstätte stehen mehr als 100 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern rund 10.300 Quadratmeter Produktions- und Logistikfläche zur Verfügung.

Cellcentric plant, in Baden-Württemberg Antriebslösungen in Großserie zu entwickeln, die in der wettbewerbsintensiven Transportbranche die bestmögliche Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) erzielen. Die Fertigung im industriellen Maßstab ist entscheidend, um Skaleneffekte zu erzielen und langfristig eine solide Wettbewerbsposition zu sichern.

Umfassendes Ökosystem rund um Brennstoffzellensysteme

Das Unternehmen wird ein komplettes Ökosystem rund um Brennstoffzellensysteme etablieren. Dies umfasst die Produktentwicklung, Wartung und die Wiederverwertung am Ende des Lebenszyklus. Ein umfassendes Servicepaket soll sicherstellen, dass wartungsbedingte Standzeiten und unvorhergesehene Ausfälle minimiert werden.

Cellcentric verfolgt ein Circular Economy Konzept, das auf einen schonenden Umgang mit Ressourcen, Materialien und Produkten abzielt. Dies umfasst die Wiederverwendung, Wiederaufbereitung, Überholung und das Recycling von Brennstoffzellensystemen.

Im Mai 2024 präsentierte Cellcentric auf der ACT Expo in Las Vegas das kompaktere, leistungsstärkere und effizientere NextGen-Brennstoffzellensystem. Die Serienproduktion ist für das Ende des Jahrzehnts geplant. Mit über 700 Einzelpatenten unterstreicht Cellcentric seine führende Rolle in der technologischen Entwicklung.
